“I started Capitol because I kept seeing good construction projects treated like they didn’t matter enough.

At this size, owners deserve experienced leadership, honest numbers, and a team that stays involved from start to finish.

That’s how we build, and that’s why I stay personally involved in every project.”

– Ben Fontana, President & Owner

Built for Projects That Matter

Capitol Construction exists for a very specific reason: to deliver mid-sized commercial and institutional projects with the level of experience, care, and accountability they deserve.

Across Southeast Louisiana (Baton Rouge, Ascension Parish, and the Atchafalaya Basin area), we specialize in commercial, retail and restaurant, public park, and government projects that typically fall into the $5–10 million range. These are projects that are often too small to be prioritized by large construction firms, yet too complex to be safely handled by smaller contractors.

For our clients, that gap creates risk. For us, it’s our sweet spot.

At Capitol, your project isn’t one of hundreds in a backlog. It’s the work we’re built around.

Who We Are

Capitol Construction is a Louisiana-based commercial general contractor focused on negotiated, relationship-driven work in the private sector and value-based public projects. Our clients include owners, developers, facility managers, and architects who value clear communication, real numbers, and a management team that stays engaged from the first conversation through closeout.

Over the years, we’ve built multi-decade relationships with repeat clients and architectural partners who continue to choose Capitol because they know what to expect: steady leadership, honest answers, and projects that are handled with care.

We are intentionally sized to remain close to our projects. That means company leadership is involved, experienced professionals lead the work, and decisions are made with long-term outcomes in mind.

Leadership That
Stays Involved

Capitol Construction is owner-led by Ben Fontana, and that leadership presence is felt on every job.

Ben is directly involved in estimating, preconstruction, and project oversight, not just as a formality, but as a core part of how Capitol operates. Projects are led by senior project managers and superintendents because that’s who we hire. We don’t rotate in junior teams or use your project as a place for inexperienced project managers to learn on the job. Every project is led by seasoned professionals from start to finish.

This structure allows us to remain accountable, responsive, and transparent throughout the entire construction process.

Our Approach:
Stewardship First

Our approach is built on three principles:

Stewardship
We treat budgets, schedules, and resources as if they were our own. Early constructability reviews and realistic cost planning help avoid surprises and protect long-term value.

Accountability
You’ll know who is responsible, what decisions are being made, and why. We believe clarity builds trust and prevents problems before they escalate.

Transparency
We don’t hide behind extensive processes or complicated paperwork. From preconstruction through closeout, our clients stay informed and involved, with real numbers and straightforward communication.

The Right Size.
The Right Fit.

Capitol Construction is big enough to deliver complex commercial and government projects, and small enough to stay deeply engaged.

We don’t have a B-team. We don’t hand projects off halfway through. And we don’t chase volume at the expense of quality.

Instead, we focus on doing the right work, with the right team, for clients who care about getting it done well.

That balance is what allows us to bring consistency, follow-through, and focused attention to every project we build.

Serving Southeast Louisiana

We are proud to build in the communities we call home. From Baton Rouge to Ascension Parish and throughout the Atchafalaya Basin region, Capitol Construction understands the local conditions, permitting environments, and expectations that shape successful projects in Southeast Louisiana.

More importantly, we understand the long-term impact these buildings have on their communities—and we build accordingly.
